If you’ve ever written a news article about the current and developing story that you wanted to update, do you create a new article or do you update the existing post? It is certainly a dilemma I was faced with when I wrote about Google algorithm changes in January 2013 that had lots of unanswered questions at the time.

Luckily, the answer comes from the horse’s mouth directly where Google’s Matt Cutts explains the best practice. He uses a good analogy with Wikipedia and he gives an example how he would approach the same situation.

This is the question that was asked and below is how Matt answers it:

Do you have any specific tips for news sites, which have unique concerns compared with commercial sites? For example, if I have a developing news story, should I keep updating the same page, or create a new one when the content changes?
